I was able to hear some of George Canyon's "Nashville Star" performances again, including "Ring of Fire". That was my introduction to his music. I was reminded of why I noticed George early on. I'm still wowed by that deep voice. I found myself sometimes wishing the songs on his album "One Good Friend" showed off this quality better. I liked both the songs he wrote. I was glad they included "Letting Go". The full song is as beautiful as the version I heard on the show. "My Name" is sad and poignant. I was surprised how much I liked songs like "Working on Ten" and "Hell or High Water". I don't mind fun upbeat country songs, but some of the gimmickier ones these days drive me nuts. Oh well, everything runs in cycles and hopefully those won't be the ones remembered.

From one Canadian to another, I'm listening to Carolyn Dawn Johnson's second album "Dress Rehearsal" right now. I really love it so far, even stronger than her first one.

By chance I found George Canyon's new album "One Good Friend" at the music store. I was a little disappointed that only two of his own songs appear on the album, but I'm not particularly surprised. Nashville talks up a storm about needing fresh new songwriters, but they never seem to allow their artists to showcase those talents, not until they become stars. Ah well, I look forward to hearing his album anyway.
