This must have been the week for the best singers to go. American Idol judges kept telling Anwar he was "technically" the best singer in the competition. Yet he never quite caught fire with the majority of the audience and was eliminated on Wednesday. Nashville Star judges kept gushing over Jayron’s singing ability. But Anastacia also kept harping on the Christian angle. His family and friends back home sounded quite irritated in the clips they showed.

On the bright side, Jody is still around to rockabilly. I get the feeling he could be the X factor in the finale. While the producers seem to be pushing for a girl to finally win the competition, the audience isn’t always agreeing with them.

*wince* I almost wish "American Idol" wouldn't do "country night". Last year it almost made sense with Josh and Carmen who had natural leanings towards that style of music. (Although my favorite was still Kimberly Locke singing Bonnie Raitt's "I can't Make you Love me".)

This time around it was just painful. Although, there were some pleasant surprises. I hadn't expected John Stevens to do so well, even if he had to "do-diddy-da" at the end of "King of the Road". Latoya had the pizzazz, but pink-haired perky Amy really shocked me with the natural twang and style singing the Dixie Chicks' "Sin Wagon". What blew me away was she had never tried that type of music before. She sounded really strong and powerful. In some of her other performances, she sounded like she was stretching to hit the top notes. Definitely not tonight.
